About Us

The SOUTHERN AFRICA SHIPPERS TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS COUNCIL (SASTALC), is in a transformation phase to become a public private partnership of the cargo owners and their transport and logistics service providers membership organization, with the objective to represent the interests of its members and the industry as a whole, throughout the supply chain and to collaborate with government and other related associations to promote and support a healthy logistics climate throughout the Southern Africa business environment. As such we aim to work closely with the relevant government departments in matters pertaining to the national and regional freight, transport and logistics legislation, policy and procedures for infrastructure as well as services that facilitate cost effective reliable and safe globally competitive supply chains, as we believe it is only through working together that we will serve the better interest of our beloved country and region.

The mandate of the council is thus aimed at understanding the needs and requirements of its members in order to influence relevant stakeholders; working to be the preferred point of entry for cargo owners on collective issues; as well as being a source of supply chain knowledge with specific focus on transport and logistics. It is the objective of the Council to represent the interests of its members throughout the supply chain and join forces with other related associations to promote a healthy logistics climate throughout the Southern Africa business environment. The council is established as the voice of cargo owners in South Africa and already plays a regional role in SADC, also representing South Africa and the region globally in organizations such as the Global Shippers Forum (GSF) and the European Shippers Council (ESC). The council has also been increasing its visibility nationally and internationally through engagement with UNCTAD and the Swiss, Indian and Dutch Councils. SASC seeks furthermore to engage with government departments such as DPE, DtI and DOT, SARS, for example, as mentioned, TRANSNET and all its operational units, the Ports Regulator, SANRAL, CBRTA, SAMSA, to name but a few.
