  • Research on shippers/logistics councils regionally as well as globally has indicated that every country with an economy of note has a strong council, with members from across the supply chain across all modes of transport, with a permanent secretariat and a funding model of typically 50% membership fees and 50% services, with a mandate to engage with government to ensure optimised supply chains.
  • ?The global tendency is for local councils to be grouped into regional councils affiliated with global councils and in the case of the Kenyan Shippers Council to position itself as the East Africa Shippers Council. In the same way the SA Shippers Council ought to be successful in adopting this regional role in the absence of councils in our neighbouring countries, while our shippers and service providers have a serious intent to move across borders into the region.
  • ?Continentally a mandate for greater industrialisation on the back of regional integration, which is also supported by the South African Government and under scored in the National Development Plan.
